RIOJA WINES have an aging process which uses 225 litre oak barrels that are characteristic of the great wines of the world. The wines are created using a unique and highly effective aging system that has become an excellent way of controlling the process and providing information to the consumer. There are four different levels for “Ducado de Montanera “in terms of its aging:
- - Joven Ducado de Montanera: a wine that is put on the market after its first or second year, preserving all its youthful chromatic and aromatic characteristics.
- - Crianza Ducado de Montanera: a wine that is sold in its third year, out of which at least one year was in a barrel. For white wines, this barrel period is reduced to six months.
- - Reserva Ducado de Montanera: a wine selected from the best batches of each year and which was barrel-aged for at least one year and aged in a bottle for at least two years. For white wines, this aging period in the barrel is reduced to six months.
- - Gran Reserva Ducado de Montanera: wines selected from exceptional years, which have been barrel aged for at least 24 months and 36 months in a bottle before being sold. For white wines this period is reduced to 48 months, of which at least six months must be spent in a barrel.
